It was launched on 1 May 2013 by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Kiran Kumar Reddy.〔(GoM gives the nod for Bill on Bangaru Thalli - The Hindu )〕 The supporting legislation AP Bangaru Thali Girl Child Promotion and Empowerment Act, 2013 was passed on 19 June 2013 in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
